Hello Beautiful! I hope your weekend was nothing short of fabulous! I spent my down time on the sunny Eastern Shore of Maryland where we had some super steamy days and endless amounts of sunshine. No complaints here!! The weekend was filled with soaking up Vitamin D, watching a boat race, catching a baseball game, family time and paddle boarding (talk about a workout when there's a bit of wind)! To relax and recharge on a beautiful day, I love nothing more than catching some rays while reading a fantastic book! Personal development books are quickly becoming one of my favorite genres. I love gobbling up all the fascinating information floating around out there and then figuring out how to apply it to my life! I'm currently reading WomanCode by Alisa Vitti and well, its AMAZING! I'm more than half way through and all I have to say is, women of the world you NEED to read this book!! It should be required reading for all women!
Alisa was introduced me to by The Lively Show, one of my very favorite podcasts. Her story and accomplishments completely blew me away. Alisa is basically redefining what it means to take care of ourselves as women. Her journey and subsequent work is so interesting and I knew I needed to read her book to figure out exactly what it meant to be living by the WomanCode after listening to her episode.
So what is the book actually about?
Well ladies, it's about our monthly cycle and how we can work with it, instead of against it; to make our lives fuller and healthier. It's about learning how to give our bodies what they need and when, with regards to food and exercise. It also addresses products to avoid and when to focus on activities like cleaning or having difficult conversations; things that you would not normally think your cycle effects. The book strives to educate woman so we can begin healing symptoms we've accepted as normal (i.e. PMS, bloating, low energy), conditions we've been told to "manage" with the pill (i.e. acne, heavy periods) and even major conditions that we've been told are untreatable (i.e. PCOS, infertility). It's all about getting really in tune with our bodies and making daily choices to support it. Doesn't that sound amazing?!
WomanCode is so easy to read while providing a massive amount of information. It explains how your hormones and cycle work and then describes how factors, such as food and exercise affect you at each phase. Alisa wrote the book in a way that explains the science in a very clear and understandable manner. It held me captivated unlike any technical science book ever did. She provides easy steps for you to get yourself from where you are now, to living in "flo" with your cycle. There are so many pages with easy to reference info that I know I will go back to again. Helpful tools such as a food list that explains what you should focus on eating during each phase is a great resource. The last part of the book, which I have left to read, is all about your fertility and sex drive.
Do yourself this favor.
I cannot say enough good things about this book; I've already got my mom and sister reading it and I think you should be reading it too! The conditions women deal with that are caused by our hormones being out of balance is truly amazing. Moreover, the fact that this is not a normal topic our doctors discuss with us is shocking. If you are at all interested in improving your overall health, if you've ever experienced issues with acne, bloating, IBS, major PMS, eczema, irregular periods, fertility issues, PCOS, depression, or lack of sex drive (to name a few) do yourself a favor and read WomanCode; I know you will not regret it!
Until next time
