4 Ways to Detox After an Indulgent Weekend
Hello beautiful! I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend! I know I did; it was just want I needed. I spent the weekend on the Eastern Shore in Maryland along the Wye River where my family has a vacation home. We spent the weekend outside (finally no rain) boating, paddle boarding and enjoying each others company. My body was so happy soaking up the sun for the first time since last year! It felt AMAZING! I got some much needed Vitamin D, relaxation and quality family time. I hope your weekend left you feeling rejuvenated and oh so happy! Understandably, sometimes these wonderfully long weekends, although relaxing and re-energizing, are also overindulgent. There's no shame in that, its good for the soul to indulge sometimes, but if you are feeling like you overdid it just a tad, here are 4 easy steps to detox and reset your system to keep you feeling in tip-top shape!
- Hydrate: Amp up your water intake for the next few days. Water helps flush out toxins from your body, keeps your digestive system moving, and transports nutrients throughout the body. Start your day with warm water with lemon for added detoxification. Keep a water bottle with you all day and keep refilling. If you need a little flavor, add some fresh fruit to liven things up (cucumber and lemon are a favorite of mine).
- Keep it Clean: Focus on eating clean, nutritious foods such as greens (especially kale), avocado, grapefruit, asparagus, ginger, and apples. Stick to whole foods for the next few days to give your body the nutrients it needs to reset.
- Get Moving: Step up your activity level. Go for a run/walk, head to your local yoga studio or do you favorite at-home workout. Getting yourself moving will get you out of that heavy feeling and boost your metabolism and energy level.
- Pamper Yourself: Take a long hot bath with 2 cups Epsom Salts, 1 cup Baking Soda, and 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil, if you have some one hand (my favorite is lavender). This detox bath encourages your body to efficiently flush out toxins, relaxes muscles, boosts your overall well-being, and feels like a pampering session.
Self care is so important to your personal health and state of mind. When you feel good you can do anything you set your mind to, you can live a life you love. So recognize when you need to give your body a little extra attention, focus on what you need, and take the time to do what you know is best for you. Your body and mind will thank you!
